For unsurpassed traction and sheer ascending speed, the Mudclaw 270 has what U.S. mountain runners have been seeking for quite some time. The Mudclaw’s extremely aggressive, cleat-like outsole makes it stand out as truly unique in a class with the long-since-discontinued adidas Davos and some British fell shoes from whence they came. The lugs are ideal for mud and wet grass on steep slopes, and the dual compound sticky rubber puts a harder substance on the heel and toe lugs for better ground penetration. The Mudclaw makes a superb cross country or mountain racing flat for those seeking traction without any extra weight. The upper’s novel off-center lacing “wrap” allows the shoe to move more naturally with the foot, distributing lace pressure evenly through toe off, especially on the steep ascents for which these terra-grippers are so well suited. The mesh upper is both light and highly breathable. The Mudclaw may be a niche shoe, but those who have sought this type will be overjoyed.
